Playground Games has finally opened the gates to Japan. Forza Horizon 6 launched on May 19, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC – and it’s the most ambitious entry in the franchise yet. Buckle up, because this one is a big deal.
Japan Like You’ve Never Driven It
Set across a sweeping recreation of Japan, Forza Horizon 6 takes players from the glittering streets of Tokyo to the winding touge mountain roads, the iconic slopes of Mount Fuji, and all the way out to the rural coastlines. The open world is the largest in Horizon history – and the Tokyo city area alone is five times bigger than any previous Horizon city, described by Playground as “the most complex and intricate drivable space” the series has ever attempted.
With over 550 cars at launch, there’s no shortage of machinery to throw at these roads. Whether you want to drift a Nissan Skyline through Shibuya at night or blast a hypercar up the slopes of Fuji, the game has you covered.
Game Pass, Steam, and Early Access
Premium Edition owners got a head start from May 15 via early access. The standard release went live on May 19 for everyone else. On Steam, the game is priced at $69.99. If you’re on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, you can dive in at no extra cost from day one – one of the better day-one Game Pass launches in recent memory.
A PlayStation 5 version is also confirmed, though it’s arriving later in 2026. For now, it’s an Xbox and PC-first launch.
Steam Deck Verified
Playground and Xbox confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 is Steam Deck Verified, meaning it’s been fully tested and optimised for handheld play. That’s a nice touch for anyone who wants to take the Horizon Festival on the go.
If you’re a racing fan and you haven’t jumped in yet, this might be the best week to do it.
