Paralives Finally Launches in Early Access Today – The Indie Life Sim The Sims Community Has Been Waiting For

After years of anticipation, Paralives – the indie life simulation game that’s been called the Sims alternative fans have been waiting for – officially launched in Early Access today, May 25, 2026. Available on Steam for $40, the game went live at 10am Eastern, and fans of the genre have already started flooding in.

The road to launch wasn’t entirely smooth. Paralives was originally scheduled for Early Access in December 2025, but the team delayed it after feedback from a larger playtest group revealed the game wasn’t meeting their quality bar. “The game isn’t up to the standard we wanted it to meet for release,” the developers explained at the time. That extra development time seems to have paid off.

What Is Paralives?

Paralives is a life simulation game developed almost single-handedly by indie developer Alex Massé, who left a studio job in 2019 to pursue the project full-time. The game takes place in an open world and lets players build homes, create and customise characters (called “Parafolk”), and guide them through careers, festivals, and everyday life.

What sets it apart from The Sims is its flexible building system – walls can be placed at any angle and at any length, not just on a rigid grid. The character creator, called “Paramaker,” allows deep customisation of both appearance and personality. It’s the kind of freedom-first design that has made The Sims community restless for years.

Built for Sims Fans, Made by an Indie Team

Massé has been transparent throughout development, running a community-driven process with polls, devlogs, and playtest feedback shaping the game’s direction. Paralives Studio remains a small team, which makes today’s launch all the more remarkable. The game supports both Windows and macOS.

The Early Access launch is just the beginning – the team has roadmap plans for more features, careers, and life events post-launch. If you’ve been waiting for something to scratch that life sim itch, today’s the day to jump in.
