Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II Launches Today Alongside the Skulls 2026 Showcase

Two major Warhammer events are happening today, May 21 – the launch of Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II and the start of the annual Warhammer Skulls showcase, both timed to coincide and kick off what is shaping up to be a packed week of grimdark news.

Mechanicus II Is Out Now

Developed by Bulwark Studios, Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II is now available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, priced at $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99. The Omnissiah Edition is also available, bundling the base game with a digital artbook, the complete original soundtrack, and the legacy soundtrack DLC.

The sequel builds on the critically praised turn-based tactical combat of the original, but with one major addition: both factions are now fully playable. Players can lead the Adeptus Mechanicus – the techno-religious servants of the Omnissiah – or take command of the ancient Necron legions as they fight to restore their dynasty on the contested world of Hekateus IV.

The leader roster was shown off in a new showcase video released alongside the launch, highlighting the returning Lector-Dogmatis Videx as the deeply orthodox voice of the Omnissiah, facing off against Obasis, the Necron Lord known as “The Shield.” The game’s strategic layer has also been expanded, giving players more tools for resource management and army composition between missions.

Warhammer Skulls 2026 Showcase

Alongside the Mechanicus II launch, the Warhammer Skulls 2026 showcase is running today, hosted by Alanah Pearce. The annual event is Games Workshop’s dedicated showcase for upcoming Warhammer video games, and this year’s lineup is expected to include world premieres and exclusive announcements from multiple studios. If you are a fan of anything in the Warhammer universe – from 40K to Age of Sigmar – it is worth keeping an eye on the stream.

The timing is clearly intentional: launching Mechanicus II on the same day as Skulls maximizes visibility for the sequel, and positions it as one of the headline releases of the event.
